Proper Contact Lens Care

Taking care of your contact lenses will help promote happy, healthy eyes and clear vision. Here are some basic guidelines:

  • Always clean and disinfect your contact lenses when you take them out and before you put them back in.
  • If you wear disposable lenses, follow the recommended schedule, and don’t wear them longer than intended.
  • Unless otherwise directed, don’t wear daily lenses overnight while you sleep.
  • Remove your contact lenses before showering or swimming.
  • Always wash your hands before handling your contact lenses.
  • Always use a sterile contact solution to rinse and store your lenses.
  • Only use eye drops as directed by your doctor, as some eye drops are not compatible with your specific contact lenses.

Automate Where Ever Possible

Set up automatic shipments of your recommended solutions where you can.

  • Do not use a saline solution as a disinfectant. Ask your eye care provider if you need recommendations for contact lens solutions for your specific lenses.
  • Always use new lens solution each time you clean and disinfect your lenses.
  • Keep your contact lens case clean and replace it every 3 months.
  • Visit your eye doctor regularly to ensure your contacts are fitting correctly and continue to meet your visual needs.

When In-Doubt, Call Your Eye Doctor

Worn-out or ill-fitting contact lenses can lead to discomfort, and if left unaddressed, may result in vision problems.

If your contact lenses become damaged or uncomfortable, remove them immediately. Symptoms such as irritation, redness, sensitivity to light, and sore, or watery eyes should be noted and shared with your eye care practitioner (ECP). Blurry vision or unusual discharge may signal a condition that requires prompt medical attention.

Preventative care is the best method. Regular visits with your ECP will keep your eyes happy and healthy!
