We recently had the great pleasure to work with Gloria Gogola, OD at the Eye Care Connection in Gap, PA on a case of keratoconus. Our results were outstanding and we found the comments made by both the doctor and patient very noteworthy.

Dr. Gogola had a gentleman come to her practice whom had been wearing rigid lenses for keratoconus, but recently lost his lenses. On April, 15th, the doctor phoned our office armed with the patients previous lens specifications of an undetermined design style along with fresh keratometry and refractive readings. Unfortunately, the lenses generated from this information did not produce good results.

During fitting consultation, April 28th, on the initial lenses, we determined that a diagnostic fitting with ComfortKone Keratoconus Aspheric was the best course of action and immediately dispatched a diagnostic set to Dr. Gogola.

On May 7th, Dr. Gogola phoned our consultation department with the diagnostic fitting results. OD the best fitting ComfortKone diagnostic lens was an “A10”, B.C. 7.00., Pwr. -4.00, Dia. 8.5. Over-refraction was -.50, central fit exhibited slight pooling and edge clearance was good (this is an ideal fit). OS the best fitting ComfortKone diagnostic lens was an “A15”, B.C. 6.70, Pwr. -6.00, Dia. 8.5. Over-refraction was -.75, central fit exhibited slight pooling and edge clearance was good (also an ideal fit).

Dr. Gogola commented that the ComfortKone diagnostic set was simple to use and gave quick results. She also passed along the patients comments; he found the lenses “extremely comfortable”, “better than his previous lenses” and the vision was “much clearer” than previously.

This is an excellent example of ComfortKone at work and is something we commonly hear from our customers. It also shows the intuitive diagnostic set design of ComfortKone; base curve parameters help quickly zero in on an ideal fit and diagnostic lens powers help minimize over-refractions to provide the best feel for final visual acuity.

We wish to thank Dr. Gloria Gogola and the thousands of Eye Care Professionals like her that allow us to help people experience the gift of good vision every day.

Prior to visiting our facility, multiple attempts had been made to fit this eye with base toric lenses. All of which failed to achieve an acceptable fit.

Although topography readings are achievable, they fall short of complete accuracy of curvature.

Our initial design featured the following parameters:

Primary Base Curve Radius = 6.20

Two offset zones, each 2mm from inferior center with Radii of 5.40 and a diameter of 4mm.

Lens Power = -9.25

Overall lens diameter = 9.2mm

This lens produced a 20/30 visual acuity and the fluorescein pattern is featured in image #3.
